The Lamborghini LP700-4 Aventador is one of the most stunning supercars of the moment. Lamborghini opens dealership in Las Vegas

Having test-driven the Gallardo LP560-4 a few years ago, we were more interested in the new brick and mortar Las Vegas home of the iconic Italian manufacturer. Now cradled in the solid foundation of the Findlay Automotive Group, Lamborghini Las Vegas will be the go-to dealership for Southern Nevada owners who drive the tony symbols of excellence, status and lifestyle.
Lamborghini Las Vegas

"This is a great addition to the Findlay Automotive Group," said Lamborghini Las Vegas and Audi Henderson General Manager Jim DiGuilio, who compared the nearly 3,000-square-foot Lamborghini Las Vegas showroom to a chic jewelry store.

"We wanted the cars to be the artwork, not the building," DiGuilio said. "Our customers and the cars are the focus."

2013 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Convertible - 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show

2013 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Convertible
Before the ZL1 Convertible’s unveiling, I walked around the car with Chief Engineer Al Oppenheiser, whom I had ridden with at the launch of the Camaro Convertible. Back then, we discussed the challenges posed by infusing the ZL1’s 580-bhp supercharged 6.2-liter LSA V-8 engine into the droptop—apparently it wasn’t so hard.
2013 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Convertible
Chevrolet has made the Camaro convertibles stiff from onset. They feature extra steel stampings in the unibody to maintain rigidity relative to the coupe, and there are some underbody braces. It’s enough to allow the coupe and convertible versions of both the SS and ZL1 Camaros to use the same suspension and tuning. This is a convertible that has not gone soft, like some of its competitors.

New-look Ford Escape debuts at LA Auto Show

2013 Ford Escape
2013 Ford Escape: The new Escape, which makes its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show on Nov. 16, will be the first SUV to use gesture-based technology - similar to that found in video games - to open the rear liftgate. A gentle kicking motion under the center of the rear bumper activates the system and raises the liftgate. The same kicking motion closes the liftgate as well.
2013 Ford Escape
Ford has unveiled an updated version of its popular Escape SUV on the first press day of the Los Angeles International Auto Show.

The Escape, America's best-selling SUV, will be released in the U.S. and around the world next year, renamed the Ford Kuga in Europe and China.

It has been made considerably more efficient, with fuel economy up to five mpg better than its predecessor and a choice of new 1.6 and 2.0-liter EcoBoost engines helping to deliver what Ford projects will be the best fuel economy of any compact SUV.

VOLKSWAGEN AT THE LOS ANGELES AUTO SHOW

The 2012 Motor Trend Car of the Year award was presented to Jonathan Browning, President and CEO, Volkswagen of America, during a press conference at the 2011 LA Auto Show.

Passat

‘Volkswagen is extremely proud to receive this honour,’ said Browning. ‘This recognition from Motor Trend is a testament to the engineering integrity of the Passat and validates our strategy of providing a US-built, German engineered mid-size sedan at a price in the heart of the mid-size segment.’ To see Jonathan Browning’s full show speech.

Top Car Debut at LA auto show

Here’s a look at the models making their debut at L.A.’s Staples Center:

LA auto show

Audi – Will stage the North American debut of three new performance models, the S6, S7 and S8, all of which originally appeared at the Frankfurt Motor Show two months ago.

Bentley – The British marque reveals the updated version of its Continental GTC Convertible.

LA auto show

BMW – Look for the all-new M5, the latest in the maker’s vaunted high-performance brand-within-a-brand. You’ll also find the first offerings from another new sub-brand, the i3 battery-powered city car and the more performance-oriented i8 plug-in hybrid.

Buick – The maker’s new LaCrosse GL Concept is intended to serve as a high-styled antidote to the many plain vanilla sedans that many manufacturers offer.

Cadillac – GM’s most exclusive brand gets a new flagship in the form of the XTS premium luxury sedan, which replaces the old and largely unloved STS and DTS models. Caddy also unveils Cue, an infotainment system that can be operated with plain English commands.

Chevrolet – Covers some wide range when it introduces the new, Korean-made Spark, the smallest Chevy ever, but one aiming to position itself as a value proposition, not the traditional domestic econobox. Then there’s the striking ZL1 Convertible, the ragtop version of the fastest Camaro ever.

Dodge – Yep, Californians may like green machines but Chrysler’s performance brand is betting there’s still plenty of demand for a car that can spin tires as fast as the Challenger SRT8 392 Yellowjacket Edition. Yep, it’s a Hemi.

Suzuki Splash small car

Suzuki Splash 1.2 SZ3

Price: From £9,995 on the road

Engine: 1.2-litre, 93bhp petrol

Transmission: Five-speed manual as standard driving front wheels

Performance: 0-62mph 12 seconds; top speed 109mph

Economy: 55.4mpg combined

CO2 emissions: 119g/km

For all the shouting and big-budget advertising campaigns of the traditional European car-makers, it often pays to look further afield for an equally satisfying and more affordable ownership experience.

Suzuki Splash

If you’re in search of a compact car, one such company with the product line-up to equal that of the usual suspects is Suzuki. It might be a small player but the likes of the Swift, Grand Vitara and Jimny have proved that it’s perfectly capable of delivering value for money without cutting corners.

In the highly-competitive urban runabout market Suzuki’s Splash has been changing perceptions and cutting a dash on the roads. This year sees a modest but important programme of revisions, with the focus on detailed cosmetic enhancements and a new petrol engine.

First seen in its bigger brother, the Swift, the Splash gains a new 93hp 1.2-litre petrol motor to complement the car’s existing 1.0-litre unit. Replacing the Splash’s old 1.2 lump has seen a useful reduction in CO2 from 129g to 119g/km, while economy is up from 51.4mpg to 55.4mpg

Honda Brio Cars

Honda Brio
The cheeky little Honda has big hopes riding on it, and with Honda's impressive international track record with small cars, this one should be a cracker. Great packaging of interior space, great design and a peppy drive will the brio's talking points.

Suzuki Swift Hybrid to debut in Tokyo Motor Show

The Suzuki Swift has been regarded as one of the best hatchbacks across different markets it is available in. And now Suzuki has come up with a hybrid version designed to appeal to the fuel efficient and environmentally oriented customer.

Suzuki Swift Hybrid
The car is called the Swift EV Hybrid. The Swift EV Hybrid is more than just a hybrid with an internal combustion engine. The petrol engine in the Swift EV Hybrid is there only to charge the electric motor when it runs out of juice. Suzuki say that a compact vehicle like the Swift is typically driven for about 20-30 kms a day in Japan and the electric motor should see it through for that much. And if one wants to drive it further the petrol engine will charge the electric motor for added range. That sounds more like the immediate future of the automobile.
